Echologic Frequently Asked Questions

How do I copy photos from my computer to my new photo frame? (Applies to models EL-DPF-8BW2, EL-DPF-8MW, EL-DPF-104BW, EL-DPF-104MW and EL-DPF-15MW)

First press setup on your remote – go down to the fourth option titled “custom setup”, press the right arrow on remote to select the menu and press USB Mode – scroll to device and press play to select.   There should be an arrow next to device.  Then scroll down to USB source and select NAND.  Again when it is selected an arrow will be shown beside it.  Turn the frame off and on again, then plug the usb cable into the computer and frame.  The frame will show ‘connected to pc’, and the frame’s internal memory will be shown as a removable drive on your computer.  Check ‘My Computer’.  Simply copy and paste files from your computer to the internal memory as you would with any removable drive (eg. a USB thumb drive).

How do I copy photos from my external memory device (eg. SD card, USB stick) to my new photo frame? (Applies to models EL-DPF-8BW2, EL-DPF-8MW, EL-DPF-104BW, EL-DPF-104MW and EL-DPF-15MW)

At the main menu, select the EDIT mode function.

On the left hand side of the screen you will see the devices that you have connected to the photo frame.
The first drive you see will be /dev/nand1/1 – this is your digital photo frame's internal memory, and the second item will represent the memory card or usb stick inserted into the frame. If you have more than one removable device attached to the device they will also be listed.

Select the memory card/usb stick and press PLAY on the remote. This will open the file directory of that particular device – go to the folder where the files you want to copy are located and press play to open.

When you are in the appropriate folder, press the right arrow to go to the files list.  To select the files to copy press PLAY and they will be flagged with a yellow box (up to 15 files may be flagged to copy at a time)

When you have selected your files, press the right arrow again to go to the edit button and press PLAY – Select copy from the popup menu and press play again.

You must then press the arrow to highlight the memory card drive and press play to close the directory.  The nand memory drive will again be visible.  Scroll up to the nand drive and then press the LEFT arrow to get to the edit menu.  Press PLAY and select paste – press play again to transfer the files.

My photos are showing 4 to the screen, how do I display one photo at a time?

Please disable the “Magic Window” option from the Photo Frame menu using your remote.

My frame sometimes stops responding while playing a slideshow or browsing photos in thumbnail view. What is wrong?

Sometimes a corrupt photo of a supported file type may cause the frame to stop responding. If the frame stops responding while browsing through the thumbnails you most likely have a corrupt photo. Please replace the corrupt photo with a working copy of the file.

Unsupported file types (BMP, GIF, PSD…) may cause your frame to stop responding. Please ensure only JPG image format photos are copied to your internal memory or memory cards.

Why wont my USB drive work with my photo frame?

As new USB technologies become available we do our best to update our new frames to accomodate this technology. However some of our discontinued frames will not have firmware updates created to support newer USB drives. If you have a USB drive that is not working with your photo frame, please let us know the brand/type of USB drive you are using and we will do our best to increase support in the future.

Why wont my photo frame connect to the computer via the USB cable?

Some USB slots provide less power than others, particularly the ones located at the front of a computer. Please test by connecting to USB slots at the back of your computer. If using a laptop, ensure that the laptop is not running off battery power. If using a hub, ensure it is a powered hub. An unpowered hub is unlikely to work.

There's a dead pixel on my screen, what do I do?

Occasionally customers mistake a dead pixel for dust on or behind the glass. Undo the thumbscrews from the panel and separate it from the frame surround. Using the LCD cleaning cloth provided with the frame, or with one of your own, gently wipe the back of the glass and the LCD screen. If this doesn't work, call customer support.

My photo frame will not turn on, what's wrong?

Echologic frames that are 10" or larger, or our 3.5" frames, have a power button that must be held for 2-3 seconds before they turn on. If you have one of these frames, please ensure you are holding down the power button long enough. Other frames have a brightness knob on the top of the frame, please ensure that it is not set to its minimum setting.

How do I display my photos to fill up the screen without black bars on the top or side? / How do I display my photos at their full size so none of the photo is cropped?

Echologic Photo Frames give the user the option of displaying the full “Original” size of the image. In this mode a square image would display with black bars left and right of the image. A panorama photo would display black bars above and below the image.

The alternative to the above is the “optimal” setting. In this mode a square image would be cropped top and bottom, and the full width of the image would be displayed whereas a panorama image would be cropped left and right.

For example, if you have this image on your memory card, which is too high for a widescreen photo frame to display properly:

“Original” setting would display the entire photo on the screen, black bars would be used to fill the width of the screen:

“Optimal” setting would display the image filling the entire screen:

This setting is available in the menu under “image size”. By default it is set to “Optimal”.
